BULGARIA: The Orthodox Church to hit television
The first Orthodox channel ("PPTV") launched in Bulgaria. As of today the channel is available on the Internet only, but there is an agreement between Plovdiv Metropolis and the local cable operator to include the channel in their packages.
The idea of the project, to broadcast live the liturgies, was began in February 2010. "The project's aim is to enable people to witness the everyday spiritual life of God's servants and laymen in the Plovdiv Metropolis," Arsenyi, the church's manager of new media said. During the course of the year, the shows and movies on church-historical themes will be added to the programming. Now the staff of the future cable TV channel, which consists of 20 people, is developing an idea to to run the country's first church news.
The new programming will enable the scheme to broadcast live reports from various monasteries from all over the country, air magazines on ecclesiastical subjects conducted by the priests, children's films and on-line evening prayers and solemn prayers as well. Plovdiv Metropolitanate is designated as the production company for the first church channel.
